For synthetic upholstery a mixture of one cup warm water and 1 2 cup vinegar with 1 2 tablespoon of dish soap works well. You can work solvent into heavily soiled areas.
In addition a light colored sofa fabric can become dull and dingy from prolonged use. Re whip the soap gel as needed to make more bubbles. After you have steamed and the sofa has completely dried vacuum it again. Some steam cleaners use microfiber cloths to help pick up debris. Pat down any wet areas with a dry towel to soak up the residual moisture.
Wipe away the leftover suds with a clean damp cloth. Make sure your work area is well ventilated. Wipe the foam off the upholstery with a damp not wet cloth. Let it sit for up to an hour and vacuum it up with the fabric attachment. Allow the furniture to air dry.
Gently brush off any remaining cleaning solution. Let your fabric sofa air dry. Dry your fabric sofa with a soft towel. But dry cleaning usually makes you think of heat or steam both of which may be harmful to your sofa and the fabric with which it is covered. Deep clean extremely soiled upholstery.
